Yak Shaving — [MIT AI Lab, after 2000: orig. probably from a Ren & Stimpy episode.] Any seemingly pointless activity which is actually necessary to solve a problem which solves a problem which, several levels of recursion later, solves the real problem you’re working on.

Online App — Web site Sullr provides reverse phone number lookups using an AJAX interface and Google Maps mashup. If you’re on your cell phone, you can point your mobile browser to wap.sullr.com for a mobile version. Sullr supports reverse lookups in the US, Germany, France, Italy, and Argentina, and currently only looks up listed land lines (like most reverse lookups). (HT: Lifehacker)

  • Since cell phone numbers are not, generally speaking in the public domain, you won’ t find them in your local phone book. You also will probably not find any information on these numbers in the free reverse phone lookup directories available on the web. There are some cell phone numbers you’ ll be able to find this way, since some people have chosen to make this information publicly available; but for the most part, this isn’ t going to tell you much if anything about the caller you’ re looking for more…
