Yes, I agree. Do you think the shift toward narrative explanation is helpful, or just neutral?

All well and good, as long as the narrative is a Scriptural one, or one faithful to Scripture. It’s good to recognize the impact of the medium on the message – but there’s still a powerful message there that needs to be carefully expressed.

I see your point, though I don’t see how it excludes my point. :) Of course, I am by nature fairly practical, so I naturally try to find something ‘useful’ in everything I read… so maybe it’s just me.

Either way, good book, and I enjoyed your review.

Whereas you perhaps saw this more as a pastoral or church resource, I saw it simply as a book on media impact and communications theory and history, written from a Christian viewpoint. I think the author did a good job of raising some critical points on this subject and how it impacts the gospel message; and certainly leaves a better informed audience in his wake. I’m not sure to what extent the book has a lot of application to the modern church or the modern church-attender, beyond some good introspection.

I did indeed enjoy the book, but I think its goals were somewhat more straightforward, and with that in mind, I think it accomplished them well.
