Joe founded Evangelical Outpost in 2005. He is the web editor for First Things and an adjunct professor of journalism at Patrick Henry College. A fifteen-year Marine Corps veteran, he previously served as the managing editor for the online magazine Culture11 and The East Texas Tribune. Joe has also served as the Director of Research and Rapid Response for the Mike Huckabee for President campaign and as a director of communications for both the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity and Family Research Council. Matthew Lee Anderson
Matthew founded MereOrthodoxy.com in 2005. He is currently a financial planner, and has worked as a writer, educator, and editor. As an advocate of new media, Matthew was influential in organizing the first convention for Christian bloggers. Matthew contributed a chapter to The New Media Frontier and has been published by The City. Rachel is a blogger, editor, and commentator on political and cultural issues. She has written for CNN.com and has been heard on multiple radio stations nationwide. She graduated with honors from Biola University and the Torrey Honors institute with a B.A. in History, specializing in Medieval Europe. This gives her the decisive advantage of being able to see modern issues within the broader context of Western History. She has blogged on education and cultural issues for Wheatstone Academy. In addition, she has interned in Morton Blackwell’s office at the Leadership Institute and in former Congressman Jim Ryun’s office on Capitol Hill. Robin Dembroff (Contributing Editor)
Robin is a student at the Torrey Honors Institute at Biola University, pursuing a double degree in Humanities and Philosophy while also teaching creative-writing part-time. Author of the novella Check, Please., her writing has been recognized by the Visalia Times Delta, Ayn Rand Institute, Michael L. Roston Creative Writing Contest, Torn Curtain – The Zine, Biola University’s annual St. John the Apostle Paper Conference and Zeitgeist Paper Conference, and the Biola History/Gov’t/Social Science Department’s annual J.O. Henry Award. Among her vices are addiction to coffee, purposefully embarrassing friends in public, and a touch of music snobbery. Oh, and eating whipped cream from the can. Dustin R. Steeve (Managing Editor)
Dustin is a blogger and web enthusiast. Dustin’s passion is to see his generation of Christians rise up as thought leaders, doing remarkable, good work Christianly. Dustin is interested in the rise of web media and increasingly prominent use of computer technology as a tool to aid people. Dustin worked for three years as the director of GodblogCon and is an adviser for the Christian Web Conference. Dustin has also worked as an Assistant Producer for the Hugh Hewitt Show and as the Special Projects Coordinator for the Torrey Honors Institute. Dustin graduated summa cum laude and received his B.A. in History from Biola University where he also graduated from the Torrey Honors Institute. Dustin has completed some post-graduate work at the Stanford Graduate School of Business where he was appointed to the Dean’s List and received a certificate from the Summer Institute for General Management. Amy Cannon
Amy graduated summa cum laude from Biola University May of 2009 with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Anthropology and was awarded the Philosophy Student of the Year award by Biola’s philosophy department. Amy is also a graduate of Biola’s Torrey Honors Insitute where she was awarded Torrey’s highest award, the St. Anne’s on the Hill Award. Amy is interested in conversations between theology and literature, a sacramental view of the natural world, and poetry. Hayden Butler
Hayden is an ardent student of Literature. He is passionate about the role of narrative as a cultural device, and believes that the careful study and enjoyment of story can make us deeper and more virtuous as Christians and as human beings. He recieved his B.A. in English Literature at Biola University, graduating summa cum laude and receiving the Inez McGahey Award for Literary Scholarship. He graduated from the Torrey Honors Institute, attaining to the Order of Peter and Paul. Hayden teaches AP Literature and Geometry at Capistrano Valley Christian High School. Outside of the classroom, he is a student of martial arts and oil painting, loves a good cup of tea, and owns an embarrassing number of Star Wars novels. Jennifer is currently a student at the Torrey Honors Institute at Biola University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. She works as a Resources Assistant for Biola’s Christian Apologetics Office and helps manage subscriptions for the Evangelical Philosophical Society’s Philosophia Christi Journal. David Nilsen
David received his B.A. in Philosophy from Biola University in 2008. He is currently a student at Westminster Seminary in California, studying to receive an M.A. in Historical Theology. David has been blogging about Theology, Philosophy and Politics since 2004, and is hopeful about the ability of New Media technologies to further the Gospel of Christ and to allow Christian thinkers an open venue in the marketplace of ideas. David’s passion is to help spark a reawakening of Classical Western thought in America (especially through education) and to help bring about a new Reformation in the church. In his free time, David enjoys watching old episodes of Star Trek on DVD, listening to movie soundtracks, and reading classic literature with his beautiful wife, Stephanie. Renee graduated Summa Cum Laude from Biola University in December 2009, earning a B.S. in Studio Arts and a B.A. in Philosophy. While at school, she was awarded the ‘Outstanding Thesis Presentation’ by the Philosophy department, and the ‘Order of Peter & Paul’ by the Torrey Honors Institute. At present she is a practicing artist, preparing to go on to graduate study in philosophy. Renee is passionate about making art and helping people understand it.
Lindsay teaches Advanced Placement history and political science in a Christian high school. She graduated from Biola University summa cum laude where she earned a B.A. in history and she holds a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Stanford University. She is a Perpetual Member of the Torrey Honors Institute, a film geek, and an aspiring screenwriter. Both in her classroom and beyond, Lindsay spends her time bringing history to life for the uninitiated, promoting ecumenical and bipartisan conversation within the Body of Christ, working for social justice at home and abroad, and enjoying and preserving God’s Creation. Jennifer recently graduated from Biola University and the Torrey Honors Institute with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Philosophy. She has studied abroad at Oxford University, and completed a summer internship at Yale University’s Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics. Jen currently works at Milstein, Adelman, and Kreger, LLP in Santa Monica as a legal assistant. In the future, she hopes to work for a non-profit corporation part-time and raise a family, as well as publish scholarly journal articles about bioethics and law, and fictional short stories. Her interdisciplinary interests and training lie in American history, analytic philosophy, education, cultural issues of sex and marriage, and bioethics. Gabriel is a student at the Torrey Honors Institute at Biola University pursuing a double degree in Business and Philosophy. He graduated from Torrey Academy in 2009 and took 1st place in the annual Excellence in Academic Writing Contest. Gabriel is passionate about loving God, The Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri, the tension between cataphatic and apophatic theology, and the mystery of paradox. In his free time, Gabriel enjoys spending time with friends and family, classical music, journaling, laughter, parkouring, and reading good writing.
Jonathan Nichols
Jonathan is a student at Biola University and a member of the Torrey Honors Institute. He is pursuing a Business degree with a minor in Spanish, and hopes to put his education to work in a community development organization in Latin America after he graduates. His academic interests lie in languages, economics and finance, philosophy, theology, and the way those disciplines interact. Jonathan enjoys most things, but is particularly drawn to good fantasy books, old furniture, and well-tuned pianos.

Sean graduated from the Torrey Honors Institute in 2000 and received his degree in Computer Engineering and Computer Science from USC in 2002. Sean serves as “resident geek” and webmaster for the Evangelical Outpost. By day he is a Software Engineer for Yavapai County Government. By night he serves as java overlord (of the coffee persuasion), CCG junkie, spider killer for his wife, and silly daddy to his twin daughters.
Peter David Gross (Art Director)
Peter is an educator and graphic designer working for Wheatstone Academy, Torrey Academy, and private employers. He is a graduate of Biola University, where he studied Anthropology and Philosophy, and is a Perpetual Member of the Torrey Honors Institute and of its Order of Peter and Paul. In the past, he has worked as an editor, actor, costume and makeup designer, tutor, artist, lecturer, balloon artist, face painter, and newspaper boy. He is particularly interested in aesthetics, education, and morality.
